Frequently Asked Questions
ABA stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis — a science-based approach that helps children learn and grow by understanding how behaviour works. It focuses on encouraging positive behaviours and reducing those that may be challenging or disruptive. More importantly, ABA helps children build practical life skills that are meaningful to them and their families.
At Brilliant Behavioural Consultancy, we use ABA in a warm, playful, and engaging way. It’s not just about behaviour — we support your child in developing communication, social skills, play, academic abilities, motor skills, and everyday self-help tasks like dressing, eating, or brushing teeth.
Every child is unique, so ABA programs are personalised to their needs. We break big goals into small, achievable steps and teach them through fun activities, using repetition and positive reinforcement. This helps children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) remember, practise, and turn new skills into lasting habits.
ABA also focuses on generalisation — helping children use their skills in real-life situations, not just during therapy. Whether it’s talking to a friend, following instructions at school, or completing a morning routine at home, ABA aims to make learning stick where it matters most.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is for individuals of all ages who experience behavioral, communication, social, or learning challenges—most commonly children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, ABA can also benefit people with ADHD, developmental delays, or other behavioral needs. At its core, ABA is a science-based approach focused on improving meaningful behaviors by understanding how they are influenced by the environment. Whether it’s helping a child build language skills, supporting a teen in developing social relationships, or assisting an adult in gaining independence, ABA therapy is tailored to meet each person’s unique goals and strengths.
To get started, please fill out our booking consultation form so we can arrange a 20 minutes free initial consultation phone call. This initial chat gives us a chance to answer your questions and discuss how we can support your child.
Following our conversation, we will schedule a face-to-face meeting and an initial observation of your child. Base on the observation, we’ll create an Individualised Education Plan (IEP).
From this point, your chosen tutor will begin implementing the IEP. To ensure quality of therapy and ongoing progress, regular weekly update and monthly in person supervision of the therapist will be arranged.
Brilliant Behavioural Consultancy does not directly employ ABA tutors/therapists. However, we have connections with many skilled and experienced tutors/therapist which we can help you to connect with.
We can also help with advertising for a tutor/therapist using various platforms. We also provide initial training for new tutors/therapists and ongoing professional development and supervision to ensure quality implementation of the ABA programme.
The Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) plays a key supervisory and programme design role. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting initial and ongoing assessments to track progress, update goals, and address new behaviours or skills.
- Designing a customised ABA programme tailored to your child’s unique needs and adapting it as your child grows and learns.
- Providing continuous training and supervision to tutors, ensuring they are confident and capable in delivering effective support.
- Maintaining the highest ethical standards, following the ethical code established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Collaborating with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists or occupational therapists, teachers when appropriate.
The ABA tutor/therapist provides one-to-one teaching based on the targets and IEP set up by the BCBA’s. The most important qualities are being engaging, enthusiastic, creative and child-focused. With the right attitude, our training will equip tutors/therapists with the skills they need to deliver a successful ABA programme.
